GEOFF TATE TO EMBARK ON FAREWELL TOUR AS “QUEENSRYCHE” BEGINNING IN JULY

April 29, 2014

GEOFF TATE TO EMBARK ON FAREWELL QUEENSRYCHE TOUR BEGINNING IN JULY
AFTER FRONTING IMMENSELY POPULAR BAND FOR MORE THAN THREE DECADES

QUEENSRYCHE CO-FOUNDER AND ORIGINAL VOCALIST HEARD ON ALL THE HITS
OF THE PAST TO CARRY ON INTO THE FUTURE WITH THE MUSIC HE HELPED
MAKE FAMOUS ALONG WITH OTHER CREATIVE ENDEAVORS

More than thirty years after setting forth on the musical journey that would become known as Queensryche, singer GEOFF TATE — one of rock’s quintessential front men and the lead vocalist heard on all Queensryche hits — will be performing his farewell tour as “Queensryche” beginning in late July (see below for full itinerary).

The announcement of the tour, Queensryche Starring Geoff Tate – The Farewell Tour, comes hot on the heels of the recent amicable settlement with his former band mates Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson and Scott Rockenfield, who will be continuing with the band name.

With Geoff at the helm of Queensryche, the band experienced incredible success, garnering four Grammy nominations, performing in 46 different countries and selling over 20 million albums worldwide.

“One thing that’s really important for fans to know is that this never went to court,” comments Geoff Tate, who will be continuing as Geoff Tate: The Voice of Queensryche once the summer farewell tour is complete.

As part of the agreement between the original members, Geoff will have the exclusive right to perform the concept albums Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Mindcrime II as unique performances.

For the past several months, Geoff and his version of Queensryche (comprised of bassist Rudy Sarzo, guitarist Robert Sarzo, guitarist Kelly Gray, drummer Simon Wright and keyboardist Randy Gane) have been performing the fan favorite on their 25th Anniversary Mindcrime Tour (with special guest Sass Jordan as “Sister Mary”) in front of sold out audiences everywhere.

“It’s sort of similar to the Pink Floyd situation where Roger Waters retained The Wall,” comments Geoff. “Mindcrime was my thing and my story, so it’s only appropriate that I keep that… The others will be touring as Queensryche and I’ll be continuing on as me.”

The popularity of the theatrical back-to-back presentation of the Operation: Mindcrime saga (I & II) was exemplified when the performance was captured for the 2007 double DVD/CD set, Mindcrime at the Moore, that hit #1 on Billboard’s Top Music DVD Chart and eventually reached gold status.

For the forthcoming tour, Geoff’s version of Queensryche will be performing all the hits along with some rarities to celebrate the music he’s enjoyed making over the past thirty years.

Although the name will change, the line-up of stellar musicians performing with Geoff after this “farewell” tour is expected to remain the same.

Tickets go on sale for the majority of shows this Friday, May 2nd and this Saturday, May 3rd.

HUGELY POPULAR ROCK’N’BLUES FEST RETURNS FOR U.S. TOUR TO BEGIN IN EARLY AUGUST

April 14, 2014

LEGENDARY BLUES GUITARIST JOHNNY WINTER TO REJOIN BROTHER EDGAR WINTER
FOR ROCK’N’BLUES FEST TOUR THAT WILL FEATURE A VARIETY OF OTHER ROCKIN’ BLUES GREATS
INCLUDING VANILLA FUDGE, PETER RIVERA formerly of RARE EARTH AND SAVOY BROWN’S KIM SIMMONDS

Rock and Blues fans are certainly in for a tasty musical treat this summer as the popular Rock’n’Blues Fest tour returns for a third consecutive year with a run of approximately twenty dates beginning in early August.

This year’s line-up features the Johnny Winter Band, Edgar Winter Band and Savoy Brown’s Kim Simmonds (who all shared the RNBF stage together in 2012) along with new Rock’n’Blues Fest additions Vanilla Fudge and Peter Rivera, formerly of Rare Earth.

“I love getting together with the great players on this fantastic concert series,” states legendary guitarist Johnny Winter, who followed B.B. King on stage more than five decades ago at the age of seventeen and, after receiving a standing ovation playing King’s guitar, never looked back.

Johnny first came into prominence in the late-sixties after releasing his first solo album, The Progressive Blues Experiment, which was soon followed by his self-titled release on Columbia Records. The music world took immediate notice, and his popularity escalated even more after his unforgettable performance on day three at Woodstock in August of ’69. Twenty years and several successful solo albums later, he was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame. In the late 70’s, he collaborated with another blues legend, Muddy Waters, on three separate albums of Waters’, including the Grammy-winning Hard Again (1977). Over the years, Johnny has put out approximately two dozen solo albums including his most recent highly-acclaimed recording from 2011 titled, Roots, which he and his band performed a track from on Late Show with David Letterman. Named as one of Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, Johnny remains one of the top blues/rock guitarists in existence.

Edgar Winter, an undeniable fan favorite who has appeared on both Rock’n’Blues Fest tours to date, is ecstatic about sharing the stage, once again, with his brother Johnny and being a part of this year’s festivities. “Hey all you Rockers and Recliners! It’s musical chairs again and it looks like the Rock’n’Blues Fest is becoming something of a tradition. ‘How so,’ you ask? Well, HE’S BACK! My brother, the legendary Johnny Winter, is closing the show again this year. We really missed him last time and it’s always a special occasion getting to jam with Johnny. I would like to thank all you fans who have followed us throughout all these years. We can’t do it without YOU. We just want you to know how much it means to be doing what we most love, and see you out there rockin’ and having a good time.”

A multi-instrumentalist (keyboards/sax/percussion) whose music encompasses many different genres including rock, blues, jazz and pop, Edgar first entered the national spotlight with his early recording of “Tobacco Road,” featured on his 1970 debut album, Entrance. He would soon form the band White Trash and release two hit albums in ’71 and ’72 titled, Edgar Winter’s White Trash and Roadwork. Hot on the heels of the certified gold album, Roadwork, Edgar would put together an entirely new outfit called The Edgar Winter Group that would originally feature guitarist Ronnie Montrose. In 1973, the band’s first effort, They Only Come Out at Night, would spawn the hit singles, “Free Ride,” and the monster, chart-topping “Frankenstein.” The album, itself, would remain on the charts for an incredible 80 consecutive weeks. The pivotal album would eventually reach double-platinum status, selling more than 2 million copies. With over 20 albums and numerous collaborative efforts to his credit, Edgar Winter has not been satisfied to ride the wave of popular music stardom. His music has been featured in several major national television, radio and advertising campaigns. In addition, his music can be heard in no fewer than fifteen film and television projects.

Next on the bill is the unmistakable Vanilla Fudge, which currently features original members Mark Stein (vocals, organ), Vinny Martell (guitars, vocals) and Carmine Appice (drums, vocals). Formed in 1966, the original band (with bassist Tim Bogert) would have a huge hit the following year with a revival of the Supremes classic, “You Keep Me Hangin’ On.” Featured on their debut album, the song displayed the key elements of their style and would be a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. Known for their psychedelic covers, the album would also feature two Beatles songs along with a rendition of the R&B number, “Take Me For a Little While,” which would be a Top 40 hit. Between 1966 and 1969, the band would release five studio albums before disbanding in 1970. In 2005, the original members reconvened for a tour with Riders On The Storm (featuring Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek of The Doors) and Steppenwolf. A year later, they were inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame along with Billy Joel, Joan Jett and the producer of their debut album, George “Shadow” Morton. In March of 2011, during what was announced as their “farewell tour,” the band performed their biggest hit, “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Since that time, the band has consistently toured all over the world.

Vinny Martell looks forward to hitting the road this summer. “Hendrix toured with us… Joplin jammed with us… Zeppelin opened for us… We thank all our fans for helping to make Vanilla Fudge a piece of music history. Music has always been, and still is, the timeless language of peace and hope and unity in this turbulent world… Keep rockin’ with us in the twenty-first century and come out to this summer’s Rock’n’Blues Fest!”

“The last time Vanilla Fudge played with Johnny Winter was when he jumped up on stage with Janis Joplin and jammed with us at the West Palm Beach Pop Festival in Florida,” reflects Vanilla Fudge singer Mark Stein. “I’m looking forward to playing with him and brother, Edgar… two rockin’ bands! And I know Pete Rivera will be singing some of his great hits from Rare Earth. It should be a great show!”

Any connoisseur of seventies rock will certainly remember Rare Earth. Their funky, good-time, music is still played on classic rock stations across the country and their place in music history is firmly cemented. Peter Rivera is the original drummer and lead vocalist behind all of the hits. Rare Earth has sold over twenty-five million albums and had Top Ten hits with the songs, “Get Ready,” “I Just Want To Celebrate” and “(I Know) I’m Losing You.” Two other songs, “Born to Wander” and “Hey Big Brother” would enter Top Twenty on the charts. The albums Get Ready (1969) and the two-record set, Rare Earth in Concert (1971), both achieved double platinum status. Peter Rivera has been called the premier rock drummer/vocalist of the seventies and his vocals have been featured on countless radio and television commercials over the years. In addition, his voice has been heard in several movies and television shows including A Knight’s Tale, Three Kings, Arthur, Tropic Thunder (trailer), Six Feet Under, Chicago Hope and Beverly Hills 90210 among others. He continues to tour the world with The Classic Rock All-Stars and looks forward to his trek with this year’s Rock’n’Blues Fest.

“I’m really looking forward to the rock and blues tour and can’t wait to get started,” remarks Peter. “I hope we can all rock it out!”

Considered one of the architects of British blues, Kim Simmonds began performing professionally in London in the mid-60’s after learning how to play guitar by listening to his brother’s blues records as a teenager. As leader and founder of the legendary blues rock band, Savoy Brown, he has 49 album releases currently available and continues to tour all over the world with the band as well as a solo acoustic act. In 1967, the band would help propel the UK blues boom movement that brought blues music back to the United States, invigorating the style forever. In the process, Savoy Brown became part of the framework that launched the rock and roll music of the 1970’s, with their vast influence stretching into modern rock as we know it today. In 2011, the band celebrated its 45th anniversary by releasing a new CD titled, Voodoo Moon. Later in the year, Kim would release his most recent effort, Out Of The Blue, a collection of varied material that placed him in a new setting as both singer and songwriter. Among the most loved, most respected and longest running of its genre, Savoy Brown is one of the magical names in blues rock. Kim Simmonds — who was on the 2012 Rock’n’Blues Fest bill with the Winter brothers, Rick Derringer and Leslie West — will be performing the best of the best on this year’s tour.

“Once again, I’m touring with the Rock’n’Blues Fest and, once again, I’m excited to do so. I am a fan of all the other artists on the bill so it will be a pleasure for me to participate. I thrive on the atmosphere, playing among my peers and I know the tour will bring out the best in me!”

Come out and experience the very best combination of rock and blues that you might ever have a chance to see!

As Edgar Winter says, “See you this summer and get ready to Rock ‘n’ Roll!”

–Tom Johnston, The Doobie Brothers–

“I know all the members of BOC are looking forward to being part of the next Rock Legends Cruise in ’15. We really enjoyed the last one on so many levels, playing, hanging with our friends in the other bands and having a great way to interact with our fans. We got our first break in this business in 1972 when we were lucky enough to be special guest to Alice Cooper on his “Killer” tour. Now that Alice has been added to the Cruise, I am stoked to be able to play and hang with him again.”
–Eric Bloom, Blue Oyster Cult–

TUNES4FOOD – “REDEMPTION DAY” CD FEATURING HEART & OTHERS TO BENEFIT FOOD BANKS

December 12, 2013

TUNES4FOOD “REDEMPTION DAY” CD FEATURING WELL KNOWN ARTISTS
TO BENEFIT FOOD BANKS IN NORTHEASTERN UNITED STATES
****************************************************
HEART, YOKO ONO, JACKSON BROWNE, MELISSA ETHERIDGE, NILS LOFGREN,
LITTLE STEVEN, INDIGO GIRLS, ANI DIFRANCO, WILLIE NILE, JOE GRUSHECKY,
THE VERBS AND OTHERS STEP UP FOR HUNGER CAUSE BY PROVIDING
LIVE, RARE OR EXCLUSIVE TRACKS FOR CHARITY COMPILATION
******************************************************

HEART, Yoko Ono, Jackson Browne, Melissa Etheridge, Nils Lofgren, Little Steven and Indigo Girls are just a few of the many artists who have come together to lend a helping hand to Tunes4Food – Redemption Day, a newly released CD on Popadelic Records that will benefit three Feeding America Food Banks: Food Bank of Western New York in Buffalo, Cleveland Food Bank and Long Island Cares/The Harry Chapin Food Bank in Hauppauge, New York.

Available now on iTunes for $9.99 (https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/tunes4food-redemption-day/id766096950?ign-mpt=uo%3D4) and eBay (in packs of 2, 3 or 10 ranging from $25 – $100 that all include free shipping and promo stickers), Tunes4Food – Redemption Day features nineteen tracks in all (see below for track listing).

Trying to answer the question, “What would John Lennon do to help feed the needy?,” Bob James and a group of music students in Buffalo, New York came up with the idea for Tunes4Food and quickly organized a continuous 25-hour benefit concert on the steps of City Hall (June 2009).

“Distinct from crisis-driven benefits, this is a proactive campaign to address the growing need for help not only in these particular communities, but across our country,” says campaign manager and project producer James. “Unfortunately, hunger is a growing epidemic but, with this drive, I think we can make a measurable difference.”

It’s been determined that for every Tunes4Food – Redemption Day CD sold, the Feeding America Food Banks can purchase approximately 40 meals.

Links to purchase the CD can be found on the Tunes4Food website at www.tunes4food.org.

To further advance the cause, winter events and local musical performances have been scheduled in the three cities of the benefiting food banks, with a spring benefit being planned for Los Angeles.

“It’s amazing that a small grassroots community service music club in a Buffalo classroom has drawn together some of the biggest names in music,” comments Bob James, who was recognized by Hillary Rodham Clinton in 1999 for a music campaign relating to school safety in the Buffalo area.

“We have deep appreciation for the artists and their staff that helped build this album. We hope that the meals generated to feed those in need will be received in that spirit and we challenge musicians in other communities to adopt this idea.”

As stated by Feeding America, “Hunger exists everywhere in America. It does not matter if you live in a urban, suburban or rural setting – hunger has no boundaries.”

Help the cause and spread the word.

This CD is dedicated to the songs, lives and courage of Pete Seeger and Joan Baez.

“John Lennon was quoted as saying he wanted to be remembered as a famous peacenik,
and he worked tirelessly to get the anti-war message out during his lifetime. Our song,
‘Dear Old America’ speaks through the eyes of a young soldier in 2013 struggling with the
reality of modern war and its painful effects on our world and its families. We dedicate
this song to all those wounded and in need.”
With Love, Ann Wilson, HEART

“Given the abundant planet we live on, there should be no hungry people anywhere,
including America. Please support this worthy cause however you can. We can all help
and solution are our collective responsibility.”

Yes, it’s back and better than ever!

Welcome to ROCK LEGENDS CRUISE III, the spectacular classic rock music festival at sea that will set sail from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Nassau, Bahamas on February 19, 2015.

Eat. Sleep. Rock!

If you’ve done this before, you know what to expect.

If not, you have no idea… other than the fact that it promises to be one of the best times of your life.

“It’s everything you could imagine along with some things you could probably never imagine,” quips Pam Myers of the Native American Heritage Association (NAHA), the charitable organization that hosts, and benefits from, the Cruise. “An experience like no other, it’s simply the classic rock cruise of a lifetime.”

The forthcoming ROCK LEGENDS CRUISE III will feature The Doobie Brothers, 38 Special, The Marshall Tucker Band, Dickey Betts and Great Southern, Blue Oyster Cult, Uriah Heep, Kim Simmonds and Savoy Brown, Edgar Winter, Pat Travers Band and The Blue Lords along with other artists that have yet to be announced.

Call it the initial “Top Ten.”

It’s a unique opportunity to see your favorite band not once, but twice… maybe even three times!

You can expect the typical day to be as follows… get up by the crack of noon, get some food, find a reclining lounge chair on the pool deck and listen to such rock classics as “Black Water,” “Hold On Loosely,” “Can’t You See,” “Ramblin’ Man” and “Easy Livin’.”

Think about it… where else can you possibly hear “Godzilla” and “Frankenstein” on the same day?

And that’s just the beginning as additional artists will be announced in the upcoming months…

Listen to the music with The Doobies and go rockin’ into the night with the Wild-Eyed Southern Boys!

More than 50 concert performances expected in all!

This is the cruise you want to be on!

Have you ever seen Dickey Betts surf? Me, neither.

But you will get to see him play guitar and that, alone, is worth the price of admission.

This is truly something to look forward to and a vacation you will definitely remember.

Cabins are moving quickly with a significant number already sold to those that have sailed the Rock Legends “journey” before… this was prior to announcing any artists… they know just how great an experience it really is!

ABOUT THE NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE ASSOCIATION

The Native American Heritage Association is celebrating its 20th year working on reservations in South Dakota and has been a 4-star charity with www.charitynavigator.org for a total of nine years. Native American Heritage Association tractor trailers are on the road daily with supplies to the various far flung communities and 94% of the organization’s total revenue goes towards program services which provide basic life necessities, including fuel assistance and medical transportation to 90,000 people. Many of these residents face an 80% rate of unemployment; 70% don’t have transportation and many of those who do, don’t have the means to purchase gas. These Lakota Sioux live in abandoned school buses, shacks or government housing with no insulation, some live without indoor plumbing, in homes with dirt floors, no beds or furniture. ALVIN LEE’S LAST PERFORMANCE NOW AVAILABLE ON CD – “THE LAST SHOW”

September 26, 2013

LAST PERFORMANCE OF LEGENDARY BLUES ROCKER
ALVIN LEE CAPTURED ON “THE LAST SHOW” CD
TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 1 VIA RAINMAN RECORDS
**********************************************************************
FOURTEEN SONG “GEM” FEATURES COMBINATION OF
TEN YEARS AFTER CLASSICS ALONG WITH SOLO SONGS AND RARITIES
*********************************************************************************************

On Sunday, August 17, 1969, Alvin Lee and his band mates from Ten Years After hit the stage at the legendary Woodstock Festival for what would be one of the most electrifying performances of the three day event… a moment that catapulted the band into superstardom.

On March 6, 2013, Alvin prematurely left “the stage” when he unexpectedly passed away at the age of 68.

What he left behind was some of the greatest rock and blues licks known to mankind… gone, but definitely not forgotten.

As fate would have it, the last show Alvin Lee would ever play, Raalte, Holland on May 28, 2012, would be recorded. It was never intended to be released but, after Alvin heard it, he decided it was so truly special that he should make it available to his fans.

That recording, THE LAST SHOW, is now here.

Coming out on Tuesday, October 1 for all fans to enjoy and further remember him by, THE LAST SHOW (on Rainman Records) features fourteen live cuts including such Ten Years After classics as “I’m Going Home” and “I Can’t Keep from Crying Sometimes” (both performed at Woodstock) along with “Hear Me Calling,” “Love Like A Man” and a host of others.

The CD (see below for track listing) is a beautifully packaged audio scrapbook documenting the culmination of a legend’s career. The music is brilliant and there are plenty of photos of the show along with personal notes from his wife, band and fans, all of whom were at the show.

“Possibly my favourite memory of Alvin in recent years: to see him walking off stage in Raalte with his red Gibson slung to the side and a big grin on his face,” states his wife, Evi. “Not usually one to be easily satisfied with his live performances, he was exhilarated and proud of having given the crowd his best on that evening. He would have been very happy with this unadulterated authentic release of the show.”

As the story goes, in 1967, four young musicians from Nottinghamshire, England — Alvin Lee, Leo Lyons, Ric Lee and Chick Churchill — formed Ten Years After and became one of the biggest names in music and one of the most explosive quartets on the world stage.

After promoter Bill Graham took notice of the band after hearing their self-titled debut album on San Francisco’s “underground” radio stations, he invited them to tour the States for the first time in 1968. So well received, the band would ultimately tour the U.S. twenty-eight times from ’68 to ’74, more than any other UK band.

In a short five year span, Ten Years After would enjoy considerable chart success with eight albums entering the Top 40 on the UK Albums Chart.

Over the course of their career, twelve of their albums reached the Top 200 on the Billboard charts in the United States.

Their now legendary encore, “I’m Going Home,” performed at Woodstock in August 1969, was captured on film and exposed their jazz, blues, rock amalgam to a large audience, who were blown away by the intensity of the band’s performance when the Academy Award winning documentary was released. Their ten-minute appearance in the film is an acknowledged highlight and established Ten Years After a place in rock history.

From that third day of Woodstock in ’69 to his last day on that sixth day of March earlier this year, Alvin Lee undeniably left an imprint.

In 1974, he departed the band and went on to collaborate with such music notables as George Harrison, Ronnie Wood, Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Winwood, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Mick Taylor and others.

He would reunite with his band mates from Ten Years After for various events and occasions in the years to come.

The band scored their biggest hit in 1971 with a song written and sung by Alvin called, “I’d Love To Change The World.”

When it comes to the world of music, he certainly did just that…

Les Paul, the late, legendary musician and inventor, who is best known for his contributions to the early development of the solid body electric guitar and whose signature model Gibson is a favorite among rock’s elite, allowed Johnson — at the time a technical sales rep for Kodak — to photograph his guitar after one of his regular Monday night sets at the Iridium Jazz Club. That early shoot ultimately inspired the book, which took 17 years to complete. He wrote the book’s foreword a few months before he passed in 2009.
